Grindstone Lakes offer trophy rainbow trout in a private secluded setting. These flyfishing only lakes are located in Central Oregon's sagebrush steppe on the flank of the Ochoco Mountains east of Bend Oregon. These five lakes have an outstanding combined two hundred surface acres of water. They boast an exceptional habitat providing prolific insect life. Hatches include chironomids, callibaetis, damsels, and caddis. There are leeches, scuds, dragonflies, waterboatmen and snails. The lakes offer an exceptional flyfishing experience. Our season begins in early spring. The season continues through fall.
The fish are spoken of in pounds, not in
inches. At Grindstone Lakes you can catch the fish of a lifetime. A
minimum of a 5-weight fly rod is mandatory. The beginner as well
as the seasoned veteran can enjoy outstanding flyfishing at Grindstone
Lakes. The lakes can be
fished from shore, float tubes or pontoon boats. There are a limited
number of rods per day at this "catch and release" fishery! |

Guest Comments "Grindstone Lakes with Rodger Carbone have been a wonderful annual experience for us for more than a decade. Quality fish, the Oregon countryside, and the professionalism of Rodger and his crew, keep us coming back. This is a first class operation at a reasonable price. " Dennis Harlowe "I have been going to Grindstone Lakes for eighteen years. It is situated in a beautiful and unspoiled location in the high desert country of central Oregon. The fish are plentiful, big and hot. Rodger and his crew are experts at taking care of the needs of all anglers regardless of their level of experience." Alex Polson "Had one of the best fishing experiences we've ever had....I highly recommend the "Grindstone Experience" since I've been there twice and have had a great time on each occasion." Rodger was born in Alaska where as a young boy he realized that the outdoors
was the place to be. His experience as a flyfishing guide includes rivers
and lakes. He has been a river guide on the Colorado River through the Grand
Canyon, where he met his wife Audrey. They started their flyfishing guide
service in 1986. With the addition of Audrey's son Jim Corliss it has become
a strong family business. Their attention to details will make your
flyfishing trip a pleasure. Their years of experience as flyfishing guides,
river boatmen, chef and hosts will insure your comfort and pleasure on your
flyfishing trip.
